Better late than never...

Soooo, 2025 seems like a good time to start a blog. I mean this is my website and therefore I can do or say whatever it is I'm thinking of and writing is something I don't do enough of, so let's dive in.
2024 was one of my least productive years to date taking photos. Moving into a new house at the end of 2023 and getting all that sorted out over the year didn't help but that's not excuse! I'm making it a goal this year to take more photos and to take more photos with purpose. Whether that's just taking a camera out with me (as of Feb 2025 I'm not doing so good at this), or arranging/booking shoots. Shoots that are paid would be great, but I'll take what I can get.

So far, so steady.

As of writing this I've got a couple things in the pipe line, although one doesn't directly relate to photography it's more video related I feel that it could be a good way to exercise a creative muscle. The other is a bit further out of my comfort zone in terms of scope however, it is exclusively photography based and well within my means. I think once I get done with it I'll be please (despite what the niggling voice in the back of my head says!). These should (🤞🏼) come to fruition within a month or so meaning I've been working on mood boards and shot lists for each and will try and distill them in one way or another for either this platform or YouTube. Which takes me onto my next point.

Video Can be Fun!

I've never been much into video. I'm not sure why as it combines two things I love (beautiful imagergy and moving image) into one medium. For the longest time I struggled with combining these to things (see image below) by trying to capture more dynamic shots that conveyed motion without actually having any motion in them. Occasionally I got this to work but it never gave me the results I really wants, more experimentation is likely needed, as it was either too much or not enough motion. Over the last year however I have kind of switched gears and been more focused on YouTube as a way to convey knowledge (hmmm) and a way to keep playing around with image making. Yes, my channel is photography orientated and I've been focused on specific topics for each video, this not only helps me educate myself but also others (which is something I use for the day job). But it's had a really meaningful to go head first into this other thing that previously terrified me. My early videos ARE horrendous, with poor audio, lifeless editing and me being unable to accurately engage with the camera. Over the last year by pushing myself to focus on this more it's become more natural and with each video upload I feel more and more confident in the video production, so that's something🤷‍♂️.

That pretty much wraps up this first little blog post. I hope to start making these a more regular feature to keep anyone interested updated as well as giving myself a way to show myself some progression over the next year.

Thanks for listening!
